Thanks Kip. I did see his tool on the net last night. Too bad it is out of circulation! Did anybody bend to the new line with it?

Bryan, I'd guess that the tool was "lost" at least two years before the "new bend" issue came about... 8-)

First,
Thanks Kevin Conklin for posting your frustrations. They made me think and that helped. Observations:
1) the 1" half-hole worked good. I never bothered with the 1.5" half hole. See my Waiex 191 thread in the photo section if you have not yet.
2) you need a 1" solid steel bar. My 1" tube with the broomstick handle just crushed. It is a lot of force.
3) I think a hydraulic press would be better than an arbor press. It takes a lot of force.

Hi Bryan,
I'm about to bend my YX-B hockey sticks and looked for your photos but the post says your pic was "deleted due to quota". May I trouble you (or anyone else that has any) to post your pics of the way you bent your hockey sticks?
Thanks in advance!
John U.

Another helpful tip: try not to drill your finger! I just did the first time ever and found nothing about the experience that I would recommend. This is not a hockey stick specific tip.

Here's my knock-off of Bryan's jig. It worked great. Easy cheezy, just stuck it in the press and squeezed...

Thanks Bryan and Kevin for the pics! Bryan, you're correct, the human finger doesn't make a very good drill stop! Hope it heals fast! OUCH!

Just a suggestion to those who've not already pressed their hockey sticks.
A wrist pin out of a diesel engine, will give a pristine surface to apply to the unbent stick.
No flexing and with careful press operation gives a really nice finish without inducing any imperfections in the radius of the sticks.
I often remember John Monnett's mantra. Your not building a watch! I still feel good about things done pretty close to right.

I bought a 1" bolt from Menards. Not as good of a surface finish as a wristpin but sufficient.

Bryan,

Your never going to be qualified to work on a gov't project if you can't figure how to expend more than 47 cents on a bolt!
Mine came out of the dust bin here at work (Kubota and New Holland sales).
Sometimes its just more fun to have an elegant solution to simple problem. :)
