Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

Bryan

I upsized my tires to the 5.00 x 5 and have no regrets. Flying without the wheel pants for the past two years. Do not miss them a bit.

Re: Wheel Landings

That would be fun Bryan!

I had to adjust the length of my dial a trim several times until I found the right spot. I have a few hours in 2 different Waiex and aside from handling a crosswind differently, they fly the same. (Queue the crosswind conversation)

Re: Wheel Landings

I wrote “relax” because on wheel landings in other aircraft a definitive “push” is required. In my opinion, the Sonex requires a much more relaxed approach, just relaxing the back pressure as opposed to a firm push. It definitely is far less pressure than in other aircraft. I tried both - pushing vs...

Re: Wheel Landings

Good morning John, I have a Sonex “Legacy” model and last fall began doing wheel landings after a friend of mine coached me through the technique. The following is my technique for solo flights, and I am not a CFI so this is just my experience. I fly my downwind at about 80 mph indicated, pull one n...

Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

Awesome Bryan!

I am sure this has been asked before and I missed it - what camera and/or software are you using that puts the airspeed, heading, altitude and ground track on there?

Saturday here was a perfect day for flying!

Re: Airworthiness inspection questions

Peter Someone else may have said this and I missed it. You need to enter a condition inspection in your logbook. It’s required. (Thank you Joe Norris for helping me with this process!) I used the FSDO for my inspection and the paperwork was a huge part of the process. I asked the inspector what he w...

Re: Back Up ASI

There are plans for a standalone AOA on the internet. It does not use your pitot and does not use power. I built my probe out of scrap alum. The only expense is a differential pressure gage, less than $100 here. It does have to be mounted somewhere easy to see when landing. After 350 hours in my On...
