Re: Waiex #0056 - N569KM First Flight 4/2/2012

Congratulations! First in the sonexbuilders.net first flight section too. I love your paint scheme. It is simple but classy looking. Question on the landing... It appears that the engine died when you were taxiing off the runway. What happened there? Yeah it sure did...I simply had the idle set a l...

Greetings Everyone, I'm pleased to report that I had my first flight in my Waiex, kit #0056, N569KM this evening on April 2nd. The aircraft is based at Union County airport (KMRT) in central Ohio. The first flight lasted around 20 minutes and everything worked perfectly other than lower than desired...

Re: Sun-n-Fun 2012

Very cool Kip! Glad you had a good trip! 3 hours is awesome...where do you keep your plane? You're going to have a problem here soon when you'll need to choose which plane to fly between the Waiex or the Pitts

Re: Sun-n-Fun 2012

Hey, that's great! Congrats to Kip for his article and recognition of his beautiful Waiex!

I didn't make it this year either but I sure am hoping to get to Oshkosh this summer. I'm glad Sun'n'Fun seemed like a good one this year.

Hopefully we can all meet at Oshkosh!!

Re: Abe from Los Angeles

Hello Abe, Welcome! I'm glad you're interested in a Sonex and I think it will be a great plane for you. I have lots of hours in Cessnas and other certified two place planes and while they're nice, I would NEVER own one based on parts and labor costs alone to keep them up and flying. A local Beech ow...

Re: Carb Heat....interesting theres no discussion on it

I've always wondered if one possible reason why there's no carb ice issues is that we draw air from inside the cowling where the air is warmer rather than having some kind of ram air scoop to draw in cold air. I also didn't install a carb heat setup but I've been doing some final engine tweaking and...

Re: Waiex Build Status and Completion Photos

You have no idea how right you are Kip :D I had to remove my engine today but think I know where its leaking from, so hopefully I can have back together this weekend sometime. I still need a few more tailwheel hours but hope to fix that in the next few days. Thanks for the paint compliment...I still...

Re: Waiex Build Status and Completion Photos

Pics are looking great everyone! Well, the good news is that I got a little more painting done: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v687/MikePGT/2012-03-10_09-53-00_191.jpg I was doing some full throttle run ups today and was really happy to see a static rpm of 3050, but unfortunately after I did some...

Re: Waiex # 142 Panel - IFR in a Sonex

Wow is that going to be awesome! I would have done the same thing but I couldn't afford it
