Air filter size & clearance

I was planning to use the larger air filter on the left, but when I try to put on the lower cowl it is WAY too tall and the cowl hits the filter before it ever comes close to closing up. http://www.mykitlog.com/users/display_log.php?user=mikesmith&project=698&category=0&log=183043&ro...

Re: Jack up fuselage?

Getting the wheels off the ground ended up being a non-event (which is great!). I could indeed lift the tail until my wife could get a shortened sawhorse underneath, and then lowered the tail and held it with weights. There is such a long moment arm, holding the tail was as light as holding a box of...

Re: Canopy fasteners

I screwed up my first canopy by tightening the bow screws too much. It looked scalloped and I had several cracks from the stress. My second canopy came out great. First off, don't tap the holes in the bows, just drill through them. Then use machine screws (I think #6) with self locking nuts to secu...

Canopy fasteners

Any thoughts about what order to install the fasteners into the canopy frame? Since there is so much bending and squishing that goes on as the canopy is pushed onto the frame, I'm assuming that if I mark the hole locations all at once, when I start fastening the canopy material the canopy edges aren...

Re: Jack up fuselage?

Does anyone have any ideas for where and how to jack up the plane? I don't own anything other than the jack in the back of my car. Hi Mike, I really like this idea. I haven't tried it yet but I'll need to soon as I need to put on wheel pants ... http://www.spoonworld.com/flying/sonex/815_8/815_Log8...

Re: Rattle can

I did have some issues with the enamel. When I shot the black over the white I got a lot of "curdling". I may not have let the white cure long enough. I had the same issues when I started painting with Rustoleum. Per the instructions on the can, you either have to paint additional coats w...
