Vertical Split Cowling Hinge Pin Retainer Question?

Hey All, I have an easy one for everyone: just looking for ideas from other owners with the vertical split cowlings. I have a hinge pin that runs from the oil cooler opening beneath the spinner down to the bottom center of the cowling with one long pin to hold the cowling halves in place. Currently ...

Re: Tool to tighten head bolts under rockers

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Sonex Brian! I hope you love the airplane! I’m not sure of any tools that will work for you. The standard is to remove the rocker assembly, torque the head bolts, reinstall the rocker assembly and finally check the valve clearance. It’s not a quick job but...

Re: MGL RDAC RPM connection to Jabiru 3300

Interesting. Okay thank you. I had a 10K resistor in there but that makes it seem like it’s still a dirty signal so maybe I’ll try that as well. Use a bigger resistor and see if that cleans up the signal a little.

Thanks for the thought!

Re: MGL RDAC RPM connection to Jabiru 3300

Hello Everyone, My apologies for digging up an old thread, but I continue to have issues getting a reliable tach reading from my Jabiru 3300 and MGL XF RDAC. I’ve talked to Michigan Avionics and Jabiru USA and get the same answer…good luck! Ultimately it seems like there are 3 ways to get a tach rea...

Re: New Onex Progress

I’m glad to hear Phase 1 is going well for you Scott! That’s great to hear. As you install the autopilot servo’s, I’ll be curious of your thoughts on installation and setup. I don’t recall a mounting system for the MGL’s into a Sonex/Onex so if you don’t mind, let us know what you did. That’s a futu...

Re: insurance roundtable

I don’t believe liability only has been as much of an issue, but others can hopefully chime in with more info. As far as I’ve heard the hull coverage has been challenging to obtain in general, and nearly impossible without time in type.

Re: insurance roundtable

Unfortunately you won’t know unless you ask Peter, but with the reports I’m hearing, underwriters are apparently much more restrictive when it comes to similar time in type. So ask and hope but don’t be surprised if they say no.

Good luck!

Re: Duckworks Aviation in business?

I just installed the LED landing light kit made for the Sonex wing from http://www.freshaero.com and so far I’m happy with them! I haven’t made an attempt to fly at night but others have told me during dusk hours, the lights are easily visible from 3-5 miles away. It’s a very similar setup to Duckwo...

Re: Please comment on 2 planes that I am considering to buy

There’s no right or wrong answer Tom. Which do you like more? Both have the potential to be good airplanes, so you probably want to let your heart decide!

You’ll have tons of small pro’s and con’s for each option, so go with the one that speaks to you!
