Re: Waiex Tail Service Bulletin.. WTF!

Thanks, Mike. I have not yet read the plans fully. I might knock this thing out this week. At least the front part...:) Just my opinion, but if you get access to the bottom of the AN-4 bolts that go through the longerons the front blocks are pretty quick and easy. I'm sure you'll get that part done...

Re: Waiex Tail Service Bulletin.. WTF!

Hey Kip, I can't be certain but I think the two additional NAS bolts are part of the service bulletin and were not part of any original plans. The plans instruct you to use the new doubler as a template for those holes. I ended up putting the rest of the bolts through the doubler then drilled the ne...

Re: Test wing assembly

Looks great Robbie! Get that aft spar done and get that thing riveted together so you can start squaring the wing frame and start skinning the wings! :)

Keep up the good work!

Re: Videos...Post them here...!

Hey, congrats on the first start! That looks great! Looks a little cold there too...

Question for you...I noticed you have a crush plate on the front of your prop...do you have some kind of spinner planned? Are you going to use the stock Sonex part?

Re: Sonex lights and wire choice

Hi Robbie, I ran my pitot tube line the way as depicted in the plans, which is via the aft main lightening hole in the forward wing ribs. I think I riveted on metal tabs on the first 4 ribs for the clear plastic tube for the pitot tube. For the electrical wires, I ended up taking each nose rib on bo...

Re: Brake choice

I've got my fingers crossed that the stock setup with the machined drums will be enough. When I built my forward fuselage I installed the crappy stamped drums but just replaced them with the machined ones. Since I'm at an airport with a 4200' paved runway I'm hoping they will be sufficient.

Re: Waiex Tail Service Bulletin.. WTF!

Thanks for the pictures. I haven't attached my tail structure yet, but ill be doing this SB very soon. When I first built and installed my aft "Y" spar I did so outside as a sub-assembly, then riveted it in place. If you do the same it should be a simple, easy item to add to the build. If...

Re: Waiex Tail Service Bulletin.. WTF!

Here's my attempt at taking some better pictures of my SB... Here you can see that I removed enough material on the 1/4" plate that the plate fits right inside the rivet row. It was a slow trial and error method until I removed enough material: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v687/MikePGT/IMG...

Re: Waiex Tail Service Bulletin.. WTF!

I'll take the good camera up today and get some better pics to post. I can tell you that I really didn't want to bend the side skins on my plane, especially the pilot side where the hinge is located, so to make the plate fit I ended up sanding probably around 1/16" off each side and then chamfe...

Re: Waiex Tail Service Bulletin.. WTF!

Well, I finally got the service bulletin finished today... Actually, I started the SB a few weeks ago by match drilling the 7/8" blocks onto the forward spar angle: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v687/MikePGT/2011-12-27_17-29-21_734.jpg For a while I considered calling that good enough, but ...
