Re: Sonex Waiex-B One-Week-Wonder Flies

Our good friend and regular contributor on these forums, Joe Norris, had the honor! He’s a busy guy flying a lot of cool airplanes up at Oshkosh but if he gets a chance, hopefully he can offer a few tidbits on how the flight went! Congratulations Sonex, EAA and Joe for the successful first flight of...

Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

I wish you the best of luck Bryan on rudder travel. As much as I hate to say it, after 400+ hours in my Waiex, I still feel that my crosswind limit is only around 10 mph of crosswind component. I’ve checked my rigging multiple times and done some other small modifications to the mixer assembly in an...

AirVenture 2022 Thread

Hello Everyone, As amazing as it is, according to my calendar we now have less than 4 months before AirVenture 2022 begins! I know it’s still early, but we all know how quickly time flies by, so I wanted to start a thread about this summer’s big show for us to discuss individual plans. As you are al...

Re: Buzzing Complaint

Graeme,

That’s unfortunate it had to happen. Are they sure it’s a Sonex? Did they have any ADS-B info to determine which specific airplane it was?

With the technology today, it wouldn’t surprise me if the owner of that actual airplane gets a letter in the mail really soon!

Re: findings - Pappas Waiex B Forced Landing

I think I speak for everyone Lou when I say how glad I am that you are okay after the accident, even if the Waiex isn’t. At the end of the day, you are the important part and we’re all very thankful you are okay. As for the Waiex, that’s a very interesting on your findings and I’m glad you were able...

Re: AeroVee EGT/CHT split Issue

It’s been years since I had this issue but I ultimately tracked it down to the MGL EFIS and RDAC I had installed. I still don’t know how they are “calibrated” but in order to fix that issue I ultimately removed the old ‘gray box’ MGL RDAC and my black and white Stratomaster Ultra XL and installed a ...

Re: Stall Strips - has anyone tried them?

I've never seen stall strips on a Sonex. I have flown a bunch of airplanes that have them, including Cirrus's, Bonanza's, etc. Back when I was flying Hawker 800XP's, I was part of a flight crew that would perform post maintenance test flights and occasionally we would perform stall tests after the a...

Vertical Split Cowling Hinge Pin Retainer Question?

Hey All, I have an easy one for everyone: just looking for ideas from other owners with the vertical split cowlings. I have a hinge pin that runs from the oil cooler opening beneath the spinner down to the bottom center of the cowling with one long pin to hold the cowling halves in place. Currently ...

Re: Tool to tighten head bolts under rockers

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Sonex Brian! I hope you love the airplane! I’m not sure of any tools that will work for you. The standard is to remove the rocker assembly, torque the head bolts, reinstall the rocker assembly and finally check the valve clearance. It’s not a quick job but...

Re: MGL RDAC RPM connection to Jabiru 3300

Interesting. Okay thank you. I had a 10K resistor in there but that makes it seem like it’s still a dirty signal so maybe I’ll try that as well. Use a bigger resistor and see if that cleans up the signal a little.

Thanks for the thought!
