Re: Getting rid of a fiberlass "hump"

Fiberglass is pretty magical stuff. You can make it do just about anything. You could cut out a narrow "V" to get rid of the hump, then add some fiberglass to the back, add filler at the cut, then sand and paint.

Re: Fuel and firewalls

I used the same fuel filter as Chris. In 125 hours I've not yet found any more than a fleck or two of tiny debris. I used a firewall fitting from Jeggs (I don't know that I have the model number). Here is how I installed it: http://www.mykitlog.com/users/display_log.php?user=mikesmith&project=69...

Re: Push Rod Tubes?

CB Performance (http://www.cbperformance.com/), Mofoco (http://www.mofoco.com/) and Aircooled.net (aircooled.net) are good places to find VW parts.

And you'll want to replace the seals, too.

Re: aerovee valve adjustment

If you don't, you are an accident waiting to happen. Jake I think that's a little strong. Transition training is an excellent idea, but many Sonexes flew without it before there was transition training. If you can do it, go. If not, then try to fly in another Sonex, or make sure you are current in ...

Re: Annual Compression Tests

I am experiencing leaning (higher CHTs & EGTs) when pitching the nose up in climb. Does anyone think that the pitch angle of the Aeroinjector could cause a leaner mixture? Climbing will naturally cause temperatures to rise simply due to less air flowing over the cylinders. The AeorInjector itse...

Re: Tools?

Paint would be another consideration for sure. I only painted the fiberglass, and that was with rattle cans. I think you need an
oil-less compressor if you are going to paint (to keep oil out of the air and the paint).

Re: Tools?

You absolutely will need an air compressor and pneumatic rivet puller for the 10k+ pop rivets. Mine is a 24 gallon capacity and I wouldn't go much smaller. Since you have the air compressor, I'd also highly recommend one high-quality high-rpm (3000RPM+) air drill I will offer a different opinion on...

7th Annual Northeast Sonex Fly-In a Success

The 7th Annual Northeast Sonex Fly-In was held on Saturday, September 12 at the Keene, NH airport. For those planning to fly, the morning started out quite "iffy" depending on where you were. But the weather cleared locally and there were blue skies for the remainder of the day. Unfortunat...
