Re: Paint

I've been a bit hesitant to respond to this thread because I did not paint my Waiex. Some details though... -PPG automotive paint, very little color (1 or two quarts) and lot's of clear coat -I did not perform a before and after weigh-in so I don't know the weight -the hinges were all painted over ...

Re: Paint

I have a specific question for anyone who sprays.. What did you do about the piano hinges on the control surfaces? Did you worry about paint getting into the inner diameter adding friction to the control surface later? I have been debating about what to do about this for a while, producing three po...

What needle are you using?

Re: Waiex N116YX first

I did a remix of the original video. I've learned a few things about iMovie and added some text and cut alot of the dull parts out.
Enjoy...

Re: How High Have You Gone?

Today, third flight. 9200 ft. But field elevation is only 6800ft here.
Jab3300, Prince PTip. Once out of Phase 1, I'll take her up to Leadville, 9900ft. I'd like to see if I can get it to 18,000ft. I have a portable oxygen tank.

Re: Is Your Build Secure? - Sawhorse Collapse

Me too. I've had my Waiex on those same cheapo plastic Harbor Fright POS horses. I guess I dodged a bullet.

Re: FAA AC 90-89A section 4

I don't have the 3300 but I do have a 3.0 Corvair powered tail dragger. I've done the first flight in both of the Sonex aircraft I have owned. For a Sport Pilot, a driver's licence is proof of medical fitness to fly i.e. "safe enough to drive, safe enough to fly." But we are all required ...

Re: Viking Engine

I tried to make my own viking forum then within one week Egghead was threatening me with over 1 million lawsuit and said I was not to open up any future forums. This guy is out of control. Could you ever see Robert Helms acting in such a way? No, and this is one reason Robert and his UL Power are s...

Re: Sonex note on new rivets

I had around 8 of those on the CCC-42 rivets on the leading edges. Kerry suggested I use a punch and hammer to pound them back flush (worked on all but 2 or 3), then just Dremel the rest. Worked for me... I would not use a punch, but an autobody hammer/dolly to "tap" them flush. But what ...
