Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

I assembled the left hand side with similar results. This time I was careful to take the springback out of the flanges, so the bottoms were 90 and the tops matched the angle of the front spar in the plans. I did not think that would make a difference for a dry fit, as on the right side the clecoes w...

Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

Trial assembly of right stab. Root rib seems too short though it measures up right.

Re: Left & right, plus hole alignment

All, A happy ending. Clecoing in from the root to tip, I realized it was only the last 4 or 5 holes that were poorly aligned. I clamped the hockey stick in a vise (between two pieces of pine) and gave it a tweak, and the holes lined up well at #40 and cleaned up at #30. I clamped the hockey stick fl...

Re: Left & right, plus hole alignment

Kerry says it is OK to flex the fingers over and updrill/rivet it that way. I may look at sliding the hockey stick slightly to share the misalignment so I can get it cleaned up with the #30 bit.

Re: Left & right, plus hole alignment

Thanks for the reply Keith! The bend in the hockey stick is away from all the holes, so there is no way it can affect the alignment out at the fingers. I suspect there is thermal expansion at play when the holes are piloted, and when it cools the fingers warp. More likely to be an issue in .25 than ...

Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

First clecoes! Found some mixed up labeling of left and right parts, plus the holes don't line up great. I posted some questions here, at sonextalk, and with Sonex tech support.

Left & right, plus hole alignment

Hi all, Working on my tail, I am pretty sure the left and right forward stab spars had the wrong stickers on them. Same for the -05L and -05R clips. Am I crazy or is this a common labeling mistake? I piloted up my laser drilled hockey stick holes to #40. If I cleco in the root first, I have to flex ...

Re: Laser drilled holes

That is part of what I was wondering, thanks David. I am planning on having my son do one of the hockey sticks and I think I will give him the drill press and I will freehand the other one.

Re: Waiex tail hockey stick - drawing revision

First, Thanks Kevin Conklin for posting your frustrations. They made me think and that helped. Observations: 1) the 1" half-hole worked good. I never bothered with the 1.5" half hole. See my Waiex 191 thread in the photo section if you have not yet. 2) you need a 1" solid steel bar. M...
