Re: Heating (again)

I’m in the same boat as Robbie and Ron. Battery heated clothes and elements seems like a good solution for the Sonex. I purchased a Milwaukee battery heated coat from Home Depot and that, combined with wool socks and an insulated hat, keep me plenty warm. I’m comfortable flying into the mid 20’s and...

Re: Aerovee Turbo Perfomance Question

Ryan, I do remember mine getting hotter at higher altitudes as well the few times I tested the turbo between 7,000-9,500'. I only flew up there a few times but mine ran hotter as well. I don't recall oil ever being an issue, but in order to keep the CHTs reasonable (I seem to recall they ran 20-30 d...

Re: Aerovee Turbo Perfomance Question

I used the Prince P-Tip prop that's recommended for the turbo. I believe it was 54x50 size. I really like the Prince products (they're works of art) and Lonnie Prince is a great guy to work with!

Re: Aerovee Turbo Perfomance Question

For what it's worth, when I was flying the turbo I had no trouble holding climb or takeoff power (35" or 40" MAP) up to 8,000-10,000'. I'm not sure where the critical altitude is on that setup but holding power wasn't a problem. I remember climbing up to 10,000' MSL and if I added power I ...

Re: Gust Lock

I’ve never had any issue with using the lap belt to secure the stick. I pull the stick all the way back, secure the seat belt and then pull it tight to lock the stick full aft. It’s always worked for me!

Re: MGL SP-6 & SP-7

John, For what it’s worth, I don’t believe there is a “perfect” location for the sensors but most people have reported good luck (no issues) by mounting them in the tailcone just behind the baggage area. There are several cross members at the top of the “box” where the curved upper fuselage meets th...

Re: Prince P-tip Carbon Fiber Propeller with AeroVee

You are correct. I have installed a Jabiru 3300 engine on my airplane and have that prop left over.

Re: Prince P-tip Carbon Fiber Propeller with AeroVee

Hello, I am in the process of building a new Aerovee to replace the current one in my Sonex, and I was considering a prop replacement as well. The Prince P-tip intrigues me, is anyone running the carbon fiber version of that? Any noticeable results or opinions on the combo? Thanks. Where are you lo...

Re: Dual sticks for the Sonex-B?

At this point dual sticks are not an option for the B model unless you want to engineer the entire setup yourself. On the A models the area under the seat pan has room for a welded stick assembly that supports dual sticks. On the B model the seat geometry is different and the area under the seat is ...
