Re: In Flight Breakup of N75654 - CAUTION: crash photos

It looks like the GPS track stopped during the climbout. Strange isn't it? What would cause that besides someone turning off the instrument?

Re: In Flight Breakup of N75654 - CAUTION: crash photos

The report also indicates that there are a lot more loads on a V tail than a conventional tail in various conditions. Even though there were indications of poor workmanship, it doesn't appear the failure was due to any of that. the angle simply tore apart at the radius. Hence the SB to install solid...

Re: In Flight Breakup of N75654 - CAUTION: crash photos

I can only speculate but the pilot was a fairly low time sport pilot, under 60 hours. Running out of gas with low flight experience could have contributed to overstressing the airframe in a panic mode. Very troublesome. I was expecting he hit a large bird. Clearly not the case. But this really makes...

Re: Woo Hooo!!! Out of Rivets

Try your local Fastenal. They carry CCP42s and CCP44s and seem to be of good quality. But if buying a lot, I'd go ACS or Wicks.

Re: Sonex/EAA Webinar June 19 - Weight, Balance, Engines

The biggest benefit for the turbo for us mountain flyers is we will get 100hp just like you flatlanders. At 6800ft, my Jab3300 probably only gives me 80hp, which is enough, but I don't think I'd want to fly behind an AeroVee here without the turbo. I do remember back in 2011 when I attended the buil...

Re: TD axel to gear leg fit

I have a flying tri-gear Waiex and am now dreaming of a tail dragger. If I decide to convert her, I might just go with the Obrien gear legs and Sonex engine mount. Looks like at least with the Obrien, it has integrated axels. I can then keep my tri-gear legs as is if I sell the plane and want to mar...

Re: Sonex/EAA Webinar June 19 - Weight, Balance, Engines

I was disappointed that the turbo was coming in so heavy. The sonex is so small and with a max gross of 1150 lbs, it really limits our options. The Dmotor sure looks promising.

Re: Matched hole magic

It just ain't fair. You scratch together enough coin, convince the ball and chain to let you spend it, you research, you attend AirVenture, you finally pull the trigger and buy a kit. I felt I cheated by buying a partially completed kit but at least built the entire fuselage. Measure, cut, drilled, ...
