Re: Ground block part number

If you are using the Airframe as your return path, you are probably better off just running the extra couple of ground wires back to the common firewall ground block. Otherwise you are relying on the clean bonding of all the parts from the wing tip to the spar root and the fuse angles, wing bolts e...

Re: Starting tail kit questions

I scratch built with a Harbor Freight rivet gun and the Sonex dimple die. I had a box of appropriately sized nails for the Sonex die, and replaced the nail every 10-15 rivets, before they broke. Can't beat the cost :-) As mentioned, you need to drill the holes slightly undersized so they are the rig...

Re: Loops with AeroVee

Something to consider when doing aerobatics. A standard Aerovee installation is not configured for negative G's. The way mine is installed, "0" or negative "G's" could result in fuel discharging from the tank vent and reduced or no pickup for the oil pump. Depending on how you h...

Re: Loops with AeroVee

I've just done my second aerobatic session in my VW powered Sonex this morning, one the first one I nearly dropped out of the loops as well, just look at the video I posted last week in my Sonex #145 thread. Look at the airspeed at the top, I'm very close to 40KT at that point. Following the advise...

Re: Loops with AeroVee

Is nobody doing aerobatics with their AeroVee Sonex? Aileron rolls are easy, stalls are easy to start and stop quickly, steep turns are a hoot. I know loops work, if I can figure out how to do them right, again :-) Go fast and pull hard doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

Loops with AeroVee

Does anyone have any tips to offer for good loops with an AeroVee? When I was doing loops during flight testing I seemed to be doing OK, but now I just keep stalling at the top; literally stalling the wing so a wing drops suddenly at the top, and I end up doing a lousy half Cuban eight. So I'm prett...

Re: Edge hole distance woes (elevator)

Did you drill the hinge holes and the elevator holes separately? Unless you are a machine, you won't get things to line up that way. You need to drill the hinge holes and use the hinge to locate the elevator holes. That goes for all the parts. You drill part A and use it to locate the holes for part...

Re: Fiberglass

The only downside to working with the typical polyester resins is that they have an incredibly short working time. Like just a few minutes. So make sure you have everything cut and ready to go, and if it is going to take some time to do a large or a long area, plan to mix small amounts of resin and ...

Re: heat treat stainless exhaust?

I have mine wrapped. 70 hours and no sign of any issues under the wrap after pulling it off for the annual. It does seem to have a big influence on under cowl temperatures. If it is really needed I don't know. I just added it because it was inexpensive and figured it couldn't hurt especially Likewi...

Re: bearing races on Azusa wheels?

My spacers arrived today, and I pulled the wheels to finish driving the races in. The outer races were already bottomed out due to tightening the nut the other day, but the inside races weren't able to push in due to the fact that the brake disc bottomed out the pistons/pucks in the caliper. With t...
