Re: Draft ??

Yes very drafty. At the fuselage holes at the leading edges, I filled those holes with some deftly shaped 1" thick pink rigid insulation, and that has worked well. Where the flap and aileron pushrods go through the fuselage, that is trickier, since the stick pushrods need to move in several axi...

Re: Corrosion Test

Like everything dealing with corrosion, it depends on lots of factors. Near the ocean, that's a huge factor in lobbying for excellent protection. Inland outside of Boston, in typical snow, rain and sun, my polished Sonex with stainless steel rivets has zero corrosion anywhere. Not even a hint. I had...

Re: Intake Elbow Spacers

Just curious. I was looking through the new manual to see if there were any noteable changes.

Intake Elbow Spacers

When I built my AeroVee years ago there were no spacers between the intake elbows and the heads. Reading the latest assembly manual I see there are now spacers called for (ACV-M01-17). I'm curious what they are for? Anyone know?

Insurance Rates

I know insurance rates have been going up, and sizeably, for a lot of people. Mine actually went down last year, and this year they quoted me only $22 more than last year! There doesn't seem to be a lot of reason why some go up and some don't. Based on hull values rising, I actually increased my hul...

Re: AirVenture 2022 Thread

I'll be there. Not sure of the dates yet, but probably the first half of the week. Not sure yet if I'm flying my Sonex out from Boston. Hoping to, but nothing firmed up with the wife, yet.

Re: Aeroconversion brake performance?

The plane has since been re-engined with the R912ULS. To nobody’s particular surprise brake efficiency has gone from hair raising to useless. Ground runup is barely 3000 rpm, which should be 4000. Roll-out braking is now even worse, as the plane put on some weight during the engine swap. That doesn...

Yes, you can build a Sonex! (re-titled)

I re-titled the post from "Solid vs Pulled Rivets, plus a little more..." Hi, everyone! After scratch building my Sonex for 5 years, and flying it now for 8 years and 500+ hours, I've gotten permission (even prodding) from my wife to build an RV-7 (faster, roomier, more payload; all the th...
