Re: Spin, engine quit

Remember guys, at negative G's, depending on your tank vent setup, you could expel fuel. Don't get it on the windshield. Bad, bad. Replacing a windshield isn't easy. I did the up/down vent. It goes up a few inches above the cowl, turns 180 degrees down, then goes down the firewall to an exit at the...

Re: entry speeds / how to do.... basic aerobatics Waiex?

Graeme's numbers are pretty close to mine (for aileron rolls I prefer not being slow, so 120 kts for me is the usual pull up speed). You do have to watch the revs and work the throttle on the downhillls.

Re: Spin, engine quit

Been doing acro with my AeroVee and AeroInjector for 9 years. Never had it quit. I've had it burp once doing a hammerhead when I got to 0 g's. I've done up to 5-turn spins. I've never reset my carb needle in 8.5 year. I've been lucky enough to have the AeroInjector be in the absolute sweet spot for ...

Re: Balloon Intercept – the Real Story

I have always appreciated the skills of a great bullshit artist...Graeme, you are the genuine article! Just a crazy thought, what is the highest anyone has flown their Sonex? The highest that I've gone is just over 8500 feet, naturally I'd left my warm jacket on the seat next to me and froze my ars...

Re: Where are the instructions?

As I get further into my RV-7 build, let me say again, the Vans instructions SUCK! I bitch about them on my Kitlog site almost every day. Other builders, further along in their RV-7 builds, tell me they only get worse, not better. I never had any trouble following the Sonex plans. They told me every...

Re: Airventure 2023

Going to AV. I think this will be 23 years in a row. I made it to 2020, even if nobody else did :-). I took photos to prove it. I'll be in a camper in Camp Scholler as usual. Flew my Sonex in last year. Not this year. Building an RV-7, now. Fun to be looking for parts and information again. 9 years ...

Re: Size of Sonex B vs RV7

I flew in an RV-7 recently, and I'm currently building one. I would not call the RV-7 "roomy" by any stretch. Having a bench seat in a Sonex helps. No bench seat in the RV-7.

Re: Leaking push rod tube

I've tried the spring loaded ones and took them off pretty quickly. Very difficult to install, and they leaked right away. To replace the typical bellows type you only need to loosen the heads, not remove them. Yes, you will have to retorque, and check again at 25 and 50 hours, but it's not a big de...

Re: Landing gear bolt broke

Nearly 600 hrs on my airframe. No issues with the gear bolts. Cad plated per Sonex. Cad plated and titanium is a non-issue at the most severe temperatures human being and airplanes are exposed to.
