Well, then that might be the explanation. Machine screws have much tighter threads than sheet metal screws. I must have missed that in my A&P class. Oh, wait a minute. I never went to A&P school. Explains a lot ;-)

So it sounds like making a jig to match the actual fuselage curves is not necessary. It sounds like the important thing is to have something between which to bend the bows in a flat manner.
My windscreen is in, but I'll soon be starting on the canopy. I bought the pre-bent canopy bows. Any hints on working with the pre-bent bows, since they don't match up with the fuselage contours? Sonex tech support says: The pipes can be cut off as short as will still assure the gas are exhausted out of the cowl. Ours tend to be up inside a bit more than the lips, but slightly longer is probably better.
