Re: Incident Sonex N1611S

I tried to find the report on this incident but couldn't find anything. Do you have a direct link to this?

Re: Sonex #600 for sale.

I’m sorry to hear that Glenn but best of luck on the sale! She’s a nice bird and I hope you can find a good home for her!

Just curious...what’s the next project?

Re: Siezed low-time neglected turbocharger

While I don't except any answers right off hand (I know testing continues which is great news!), I also have a lot of questions on this potential fix in addition to Noel's excellent ones already posted. Perhaps, in time, these other questions can be answered as well. In addition to the component fai...

Re: Aerovee parts supplier

Not to worry about grinding on the magnesium. I've abandoned that fine, flaw-free piece of artwork in favor of an aluminum unit. Just out of curiousity, what aluminum block did you go with? Do you need to perform any modifications to the new block to make it match with the AeroVee block? I’ve heard...

Re: Accident N543SX

Waiex 49 wrote:I hate to ask, but is this another AeroVee accident?

It appears the airplane was powered by an AeroVee, but I hope we can all avoid speculation on any cause until we know more of what happened.

My thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the pilot. A very sad day.

Re: Prop/steering rod

I’m really glad to hear damage to your airplane was minimal, and I’m sure someone on here will have a prop for you to purchase. I’m sorry to bring this up, but in the interest of safety, I have to ask; how did you determine the crank was okay? I assume you did have a prop strike, correct? The only r...

Re: SonexFlight Episode 32 - 2017 Look-back & 2018 Look-ahea

Hi Jeff, I know I’m not the highest AeroVee operator by a long shot, but I have a little over 300 hours on mine including 100 hours of turbo time! I do hope you’re able to line up a few people with some serious hours on theirs. I’d love to hear their secrets as well! Like others have said, congratul...

Re: Siezed low-time neglected turbocharger

I have a dumb question from a non-turbo flyer. I recall that when turbos first started appearing on cars they sometimes had an arrangement where after you turned off the engine, it continued to idle for a few minutes while the turbo cooled down and then shut off automatically. Would it be possible ...

Re: Siezed low-time neglected turbocharger

I think you hit the nail right on the head Tim. For many builders, a primary reason the Sonex was chosen is the performance per dollar. When I built mine, you could finish a Sonex with an AeroVee and have it in the air for $30,000-35,000 total. Sure, to many the AeroVee is a fun kit to assemble and ...

Re: Sonex Waiex B model kit questions

Tim, My Waiex is a taildragger but after looking at the plans, I recommend you follow Kerry’s advice on this one. When you’re rigging the wings you will have the forward part of the spar tunnel in place but the aft parts will be held on temporarily as you fit things up. Then, you will lock it all in...
