Re: Tailbeacon on a Waiex

Robert, I'll definitely post pictures. We are getting close. Adam may have a good lock ring today and then will work on a mold for the tailbeacon mount/fairing. We plan to make a conical-ish 3D printed male mold, lay up glass on the outside, remove the plastic, slice the tail tip and bond it in. Bob...

Re: Sonex-A purchase - What to look for

We are coming up on 240 hours on our AeroVee. Biggest issue is oil leaks. More of a mess and nusiance than a safety hazard. Biggest single XC was a bit over 460 miles. I want to fly to Sun-n-Fun some year. My biggest worry is spousal, not engine. My engine was built by my then 15 year old. Weight is...

Re: Tailbeacon on a Waiex

News flash: my wire is terminated. Now I just have to hook the 167 things back up that were in the way.

Re: Tailbeacon on a Waiex

The perils of working behind the panel on a Sonex. Nearly impossible to add a wire. I haven't succeeded yet but still trying.

Adam has made the first aluminum lock ring. Needs work but looks really promising.

Re: Spending Summer Outside Milwaukee

That was supposed to be humor. I'm probably better at building airplanes. I did send Mike a list of airport restaurants and attractions that I'm aware of. Plus the location of the builders I'm aware of.

Re: On to the Turtle Deck

Also Bob consider the bending stress the turtledeck skin is under. Seems like it would pop up between the rivets, whereas when under the side skin everything is nice and flat. Not sure if this is what Dale observed.

Re: Tailbeacon on a Waiex

Adam has made a couple of lock rings out of HDPE on the CNC router. It took him a couple of tries to get the tool path right. He also made a 3D printed tool for drilling the holes for the 2 screws that prevent the beacon from unlocking itself in flight. lock ring drill jig.png That also took a coupl...
