I cut the slots for the ruddervator pushrods in the aft skin tonight. Cut the two 1 3/4" holes with a holesaw then cut between them with a dremel and cutoff wheel.
I clecoed the two skins together and holesawed both skins at once. I think one at a time would have been smarter but it came out ok.
A clarification - most of my Acro time was in the Pitts, about 10 hours. I don't have nearly 1000 hours in the Pitts! When I reread what I wrote it looked wrong. I do still want one when I grow up though.
24 years and 1000 hours and I still turn bad wheel landings into 3 pointers. It is a critical skill. I only had one acro lesson in the decathlon. It is a good airplane. My instructor also had a Pitts and I spent most of my time there. Much easier to do acro in a Pitts. It is almost like it was made ...
Ryan, The fuselage is paused while I add two 2' wings on either side of my table. There is a lesson to those that follow me: build a 10' table. I would be glad to catch you with my prebuilt spars, if I can!
It is not terribly important to always do nice landings. It is vitally important to always do good recoveries. I was getting a BC12D checkout one time from a crazy Englishman in Florida. I was doing nice landings. On the last landing he was chattering, waving his arms around, and pulled out/unfolded...
In my primary training, my instructor focused on wheel landings. I got really good at them. I could barely 3 point to save my life. After flying 15 years we moved to NY and I started towing gliders at Harris Hill. There is only 1100' of pavement and it slopes downhill when landing north. My very fir...
Hi all, I have access to a large sheetmetal brake. That would work, but there is the hassle of coordination, transport, and supporting the skin for the bend. Should I go that route anyway? What did you do? This is for the 14 degree bend to match up with the forward fuselage.
We should do the Chicagoland brunches after 10PM. Then I could make them. Stayed up and finished F28, the aft fuse verticals and rudder stop plates. It was mostly an edge finishing exercise except vertical #5 has to be modified with a big notch to make it a Waiex part. I used a trusty 1 3/4" ho...
