Re: Waiex tail hockey stick - drawing revision

Thanks Kip. I did see his tool on the net last night. Too bad it is out of circulation! Did anybody bend to the new line with it?

Re: Waiex tail hockey stick - drawing revision

I did a little internet searching last night. It seems like a v block may not be good as the fitting will torque around when you press it. I am thinking of making a block with a half round cut into it, so for the first part of the bend there is no torque. I tried to join Waiexplans. It is impossible...

Re: Start the Clock

Congrats! I have a bunch of single seat tailwheel time and it is good. I guess I should start my clock too.

Re: .025 aluminum question

I have a scratch built hummelbird project, on hold for the Waiex. I have rolled 2024-T3 up to 0.040 for storage. You have to roll it tight if you want a permanent curl to it. If there is a curl, it is unlikely to be able to resist being formed into stuff and then the curl is gone anyway. Rolling 0.0...

Web based build logs

Has there been any discussion on pros and cons of various build log sites? Or has anybody already done a trade study and come to a conclusion? I want to get something set up as I slog through inventory.

Re: Inventory

Golf cart is running! It is fun but a distraction for my 12 year old building partner. We started inventory in earnest yesterday, and made good progress today. It feels good to handle aluminum parts again. Due to our move I have not worked on airplanes in over 9 months. I am glad to have my therapy ...

Re: In Flight Breakup of N75654 - CAUTION: crash photos

Probably because the angle failed in tension at the radius due to static overload. I wonder if the result would have been different had the aluminum washer holes been carrying their share of the load.

Inventory

Hi all, We got started tonight. We were looking for tail parts and were doing inventory at the same time. A couple of questions: 1) did all your nose ribs come together? I seem to have 26 aft ribs and 20 nose ribs but I wonder if 6 are hidden somewhere else. 2) when doing inventory, do you finish th...

Re: In Flight Breakup of N75654 - CAUTION: crash photos

From the prob cause: It is likely that the pilot, distracted by the loss of engine power, allowed the airplane to enter an unusual attitude, and the tail separated during the pilot’s attempted recovery from the unusual attitude. Running out of fuel would not be the cause of the tail coming off thoug...
