Re: Frozen Trim Cable

Would it be possible to puncture a drain hole in the jacket of the cable at the lowest point? Would still probably require you to remove the cable and clear the water first, but might help going forward. The possible low point is inside the fuselage and just about impossible to get to. Once warmer ...

Frozen Trim Cable

I've never had this issue in past winters, but I have it on every flight now, in cold weather. My trim cable has been freezing solid. Even if it works on the ground (only if it's not too cold), once I get flying in the cold air it freezes up. There is obviously water somewhere in the cable housing, ...

Re: Prop/steering rod

When I had my prop strike I replaced the crank and bearings. When I went to remove the gland nut by anchoring the prop hub flange I found the crank was rotating inside the prop hub! The prop strike had sheared the woodruff key on the end of the crank. When I got the prop hub off I saw 1/2 of the woo...

Re: sonex in the ne area

There's a Onex at Falmouth on Cape Cod (5B6), me and my Sonex in Stow, MA (6B6), Aaron Knight down at Marshfield, MA (GHG), Ian Clark in Taunton, MA (TAN), and Glenn Hunt in Keene, NH (EEN). And we have a Northeast Sonex Fly-In ever September. Keith Macht is in CT, but he's taking his plane out of s...

No doubt! But with hills and trees all around me in New England, just 20 hp extra would sure make life better! :-) But I'm not gonna' get 100 hp for $8K! :-(

Re: Change to Prince Prop

OK, so I'll hijack my own thread. Here's the story of my Sensenich ground adjustable prop. I wanted to be able to have a climb prop for much of my flying, but also wanted a cruise prop for longer trips like going to OSH (1,000 miles). I talked to Sensenich at OSH many years ago, and they convinced m...

Re: I Love My AeroVee

Now that I've assembled and run one, if I were to do it over I would strongly consider buying a complete and running engine instead. Knowing that someone with expert VW experience assembled the parts and ran them at their facility is a lot more confidence-inspiring (and a lot less frustration-induc...

Re: I Love My AeroVee

I now average about 90 hours a year on my AeroVee. I do love the simplicity of the engine. I carry a tool kit with me when I travel. If I take along a rear oil seal then I can "almost" rebuild the engine with the tools I have on hand. I should know; I built mine once and rebuilt it twice (...

Re: Change to Prince Prop

Mike...........and all other boats afloat........just so you know............. Sensenich does make a ground adjustable composite propeller with leading edge protection for the Aerovee. Saw and touched one at the Sebring Light Sport show on Friday. Yes, and I had one. But the ground adjustable was a...

Re: Change to Prince Prop

For the first couple of years I had a Sensenich ground adjustable. What a piece of junk! When a prop strike blew it up (yay!) I got the Sonex "standard" Sensenich prop. My climb outs in summer weather are still anemic. If I'm flying at gross, or with an adult passenger I often see 200 to 2...
