Re: Maintaining a Healthy Forum

Stupid: 4. Going with circuit breaker switches. My chapter advisor was a big fan of these and talked me into it. This caused me to make a sub panel and dropped down my air vents. Along with added weight, space and expense, this caused less leg room for taller pilots. They do work great. Great list!...

Re: Maintaining a Healthy Forum

Censors and moderators are two different things. We have moderators here, not censors. Sometimes a moderator must censor something, but I have seen VERY little of that in this forum. Maybe too little.

Re: A Few of My Favorite Things

My portable engine hoist plans just got uploaded to the Sonex Foundation web site: http://www.sonexfoundation.com/uploads/Portable_Engine_Hoist.pdf Another one of my favorite things. No wheels, so it's stable and simple. After suspending the engine you move the airplane, instead. It fit in my Subaru...

I think the unfortunate truth is that that's not always the case. And I don't mean that to be snarky; it's just true if you read a lot of posts here. I'm all for the added moderation in this case.

Re: A Few of My Favorite Things

Mike, Relooking at your build log (great job, again!) I’m curious about your latest heat muff. Did that unit work out? Can you give us an update and maybe some tips for anyone considering a heat muff? Nope. It doesn't work one bit. Not enough heat bottled up in the muff. I think one muff may not be...

Re: ADS-B, where is your head?

I already had a Sandia transponder, so I installed the Uavionix echoUAT with a WAAS GPS on the glare shield. I got it installed in a total of 7 hours, and I've gotten 100% positive feedback from the FAA. I see the local traffic and weather on my Nexus tablet running Avare, and I'm 2020 compliant. I'...

Re: What's the stupidest thing you did during the build?

As a scratch builder I had to bend my own wing skins. After getting the initial bend I tried to bend it further with a 2x4 and ended up putting a dent and crease in the leading edge, the exact shape of the 2x4. I couldn't get it out, plus I have polished wings and so could not add filler. So that wa...

Do you have photos of the canopy brace? And the link for the fly-in did not work.

Re: A Few of My Favorite Things

Mike, You haven't by any chance come up with a working, durable seal for the rear canopy edge against the turtledeck? So far all ideas I have tried, tend to disintegrate or rub off after a while. Right now I am working on an idea that incorporates say ø1/2" tube bent to follow the turtledeck e...
