Re: Aerocarb Alternatives

My suggestion is to listen to the SonexFlight podcast on Aerocarb tuning with Kerry. I recently returned to the Aerocarb after a bad experience with the Rotec, followed Kerry's and Jeff's suggestions and frankly, I am very happy with it. You do need to adjust your mixture depending on whether you ar...

Re: Is There Anything That Wont Crack the Canopy?

I use Lemon Pledge to clean my canopy. I suspect you got some alcohol down into the drilled hole and it found enough rough surface to work with to form the crack. I've been fortunate. I only cracked my first canopy due to overtightning the bow screws. My current one is 4 years old with 350 hours on ...

Re: Eclipse 2017

Friends on the ground told me they noticed a sharp drop in air temps during the total. I didn't watch my OAT to confirm.

Re: Eclipse 2017

Seems the Waiex out numbered the Sonex at the eclipse. Probably due to us Waiex drivers being bolder and more adventurous than our three feathered friends. Oh well, we still will talk to you at flyins. I passed 335 hours on the trip and landing in Wyoming for fuel really pushed my crosswind skill se...

Eclipse 2017

Those of us close enough to intercept the total eclipse, took to flight to do so. Carl Benda, in his Nan Chang and I in my trusty Waiex, flew up to the Wyoming/Nebraska border at high noon. We climbed to 11,500 to get on top of the haze. Huge change when you get to the total eclipse. It gets darn da...

Re: Toe brakes and castoring tailwheel

I installed toe brakes a few months ago. I copied John Gillis's idea (Thanks John). The fuel valve is in the way on my plane so I made a mirrored, left and right set of pedals. Soon after the brakes were sorted I started working on a fully castoring steerable tailwheel. I replaced a stock standard ...

I'll arrive Friday or Saturday, stay at 7th heaven with Wayne til Monday, then move over to homebuilt camping Monday afternoon. I plan to be at Wayne's Wednesday night for the party and airshow. Might try to record a podcast in the campground one evening (Tuesday?) with John Gillis and Mike Neident...
