Re: Cracked canopy

John Gillis- Can you send us photos what you did with the angle on the bottom. Thanks in advance. Screws and nuts were used and not more than finger tight and oversized holes through the plastic. Unfortunately, I sold the canopy to another builder. Did you use stainless rivets or softer aluminum? I...

Re: Cracked canopy

Every cracked canopy i have seen (Including mine) the cracks originated along the lower edges of the sides. The standard Sonex "A" model canopy is curved on the sides and when pressed into shape along the straight edges, the inside surface is under tension. Any tiny scratches or nicks alo...

Re: Cracked canopy

Two potential issues. Too tight on the screws or chemical contaminant. Doubtful on the second, unless you used something. Instead of tapping the frame, drill through and use a screw/nut combo. Tighten only to the point you can still rotate the screws by hand. Takes the stress out. My first canopy I ...

Re: insurance catch

For the first year since first flight in 2014, my insurance has dropped below $1000/year for $35k hull. I did push past 600 hours of tailwheel and no incidents. Falcon.

Re: Rivet grip ranges.

I think a big factor in the rivet length call-outs printed in the plans was simplicity. Sonex probably wanted to keep the number of distinct rivets to a minimum and consolidated grip lengths into mainly just 42's and 44's. Now we have an option for 41's (never used on the legacy models) and that wo...

Re: Registration number placement, Waiex specific

The guidance reads: (1) On both sides of the fuselage between the trailing edge of the wing and the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer, or (2) On both sides of the vertical tail surface. Since the stabilators are more horizontal than vertical I doubt it would be acceptable to place the numbe...

Registration number placement, Waiex specific

This is for our resident legal beagles and those who feel they are beagles. For a Waiex, can you put your tail number under the Y tail feathers? Or does it need to be forward of it? I'm redoing the Super Bee and the typical placement of the tail number on a Waiex, just forward of the feathers will i...

Re: Time to Start Planning for AirVenture 2019!

The Super Bee will return to the hive if at all possible. Otherwise, I'll be hitching a ride in something else. Or staying at home.

Re: 3300 Jab problem

This is a problem typical with an Aerocarb not a Bing. Look at fuel flow. Seems its running out of go juice at higher demand. What is your fuel flow prior to the carb? (disconnect at the carb and measure the flow.)
